The Land Run of September 16, 1893 was known as the Cherokee Strip Land Run. It opened 8,144,682.91 acres (12,726 square miles or about 3.3 million hectares) to settlement. The land was purchased from the Cherokees. It was the largest land run in U.S. history, four times larger than the Land Run of 1889.[2] The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center museum at the eastern edge of Enid, Oklahoma commemorates this event.

Life is better when you're laughing.

"Always return to the present. It is not in the past but in the present moment you will connect with me. That is the place to connect and rest without blame and judgment. That is the place to experience the love we shared and always will share. And it is in the present moment you can access the fond memories without regret but instead with joy."

“Someone needs to tell those tales. When the battles are fought and won and lost, when the pirates find their treasures and the dragons eat their foes for breakfast with a nice cup of Lapsang souchong, someone needs to tell their bits of overlapping narrative. There's magic in that. It's in the listener, and for each and every ear it will be different, and it will affect them in ways they can never predict. From the mundane to the profound. You may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone's soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows what they might do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift. Your sister may be able to see the future, but you yourself can shape it, boy. Do not forget that... there are many kinds of magic, after all.”  The Night Circus

“I don't think humanity just replays history, but we are the same people our ancestors were, and our descendants are going to face a lot of the same situations we do. It's instructive to imagine how they would react, with different technologies on different worlds. That's why I write science fiction -- even though the term 'science fiction' excites disdain in certain persons.”    Kage Baker

"Miracle Mixer"

1937 Fred Waring, a popular entertainer during the 1930s, '40s and '50s, introduces the "Miracle Mixer," the first blender in recorded history, to the American public at the National Restaurant Show. "Miracle Mixer" is officially renamed Waring Corporation and the appliance name is changed to the "Waring Blendor".
After purchasing the rights to an electric blender invented by Fred Osius during the heart of the Great Depression, Fred Waring poured $25,000 into the redesign and improvement of what he in 1938 renamed the "Waring" blender.   Waring then promoted his blender at the restaurants and hotels he visited on tour with his band.

Calistoga, California

When a wildfire threatens, residents have to make fast – and occasionally heartbreaking – decisions on what to save: family treasures, extra clothes, the family pet. The Petaluma animal rescue center in Sonoma County, California, is one of several nonprofits helping the animals left behind, as well as those people who managed to escape with their pets.
